This policy explains what AtmosWise collects, why, and what control you have over it. It applies to atmoswise.com and covers every visitor, wherever you are.
Who we are
AtmosWise is an independent publication about home theater sound. For any privacy question or request, write to [email protected].
What we collect
Information you give us. If you use the contact form we store your name, email address, subject, and message so we can reply. If you subscribe to the newsletter we store your email address and the date you subscribed.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our server records standard log data: IP address, browser type, referring page, and the time of each request. This is used for security and to understand which guides are being read.
We do not ask for, and have no use for, your date of birth, physical address, phone number, or payment details.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use them in three categories, and you choose which ones are allowed the first time you visit.
- Functional. Required for the site to work. This includes remembering your cookie choice itself. These cannot be switched off.
- Analytics. Anonymous statistics about which pages are read and how visitors move through the site.
- Advertising. Used by advertising partners to measure and personalise advertising.
You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie Settings link in the footer of every page. Full detail is in our Cookie Policy.
Advertising and third party vendors
AtmosWise may display advertising served by third parties, including Google.
- Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve advertising based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve advertisements to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of a third party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or the Network Advertising Initiative.
The DoubleClick DART cookie. Google, as a third party vendor, uses the DART cookie to serve advertisements to visitors of this site based on their visits to atmoswise.com and other sites on the internet. Visitors may decline the use of the DART cookie through the Google advertising and content network privacy policy at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
Third party advertising partners have their own privacy policies governing the data they collect. We do not control those cookies and cannot access the data they gather.
Analytics
We use privacy respecting analytics to count page views and understand which guides are useful. Analytics data is aggregated and is not used to identify individual visitors. Analytics cookies are only set if you consent to them.
How we use your information
- To reply to messages you send us.
- To send the newsletter, if you asked for it.
- To keep the site secure and to diagnose technical faults.
- To understand which content is worth writing more of.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties except where required to operate the site (our hosting provider) or where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Contact form messages are kept for two years, then deleted. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Server logs are rotated after 90 days.
Your rights under the GDPR
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to restrict or object to how we process it, and to receive it in a portable format.
To exercise any of these, write to [email protected]. We respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Your rights under the CCPA
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected about you, the right to request deletion of that information, the right to know whether it is sold or disclosed and to whom, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
AtmosWise does not sell personal information, as that term is defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act. To make a request, write to [email protected].
Children’s privacy
AtmosWise is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact [email protected] and it will be deleted promptly.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS and submissions are transmitted encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, so we collect as little as possible in the first place.
Links to other sites
Guides link to manufacturer documentation, Dolby and DTS specifications, and similar sources. Once you follow a link you are on someone else’s site, under their privacy policy, not this one.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the effective date at the top of the page changes with it. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the revised policy.
